So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” – Mark 10:50-51.
Jesus asked his question “What do you want me to do for you?” to the brothers James and John, but also of Bartimaeus. The brothers asked for power, for honor, for glory. Bartimaeus asked simply to see again.
To the brothers, he gave a curt response, “You do not know what you ask for.” To Bartimaeus, Jesus gave what was asked, sight (though it should be noted the sight which Bartimaeus received was much more than physical sight; Bartimaeus was able to see who Jesus really was.)
So what would your answer be if Jesus asked you, “What do you want me to do for you?” What would you ask for?
